Protect it now or lose it forever.

By Andrew J. Pridgen

White, black, gay, straight, or something-in-between, young, old, or not identifying as either, loves animals, loves to shoot animals, rich, poor, just getting by, hip hop, country, classic rock, Muslim, Christian, Jew, Agnostic, drives a big truck, rides a bike, Asian, Mexican, Eastern European, Haitian, Turkish, Australian …effing Canadian, conservative, liberal, libertarian, just wants to be left alone, employed, retired, looking, PhD, high school dropout, lives on a farm, lives in the city, lives on the streets — we are ALL Americans.

And the one thing we do share is we were all born or sworn into a Democracy. It is our duty, as citizens, to protect it with our very dying breaths and thereby, protect one another.

If you think this isn’t a slip into authoritarianism, a coup using the manipulation of the law, or if you are cheering the rise of fascism because of some ideological ‘concerns’ with what you perceive is the other side — I’ve got news for you: THERE IS NO OTHER SIDE.

To the 60 million-plus out there (mostly white, mostly male, mostly over 40 — sorry, but that’s a fact) who prefer a fascist regime, who want us to become the next Turkey or one of the -stans, that’s fine. The rest of us will fight you and we will win.

As a reminder. There literally is no historical precedent for this. Watergate was a break-in to a DNC hotel room and a cover-up. This is colluding with a foreign adversary.

This is a regime that is so financially tied and likely tied with blackmail to another power that there is a fundamental question over whether their loyalties lie with the citizens of this country. All indicators and the lies upon lies to support their cause answer that question as….unilaterally NO.

BTW, those saying everything will be OK because checks and balances ought to do their research. This administration can delay or deny any investigation or its outcome. A literal case of a thief and plunderer choosing his judge and jury. Let that sink in. Then email/call your rep. They’re really the last men and women standing on the front lines and the only thing between you having to explain to your children and grandchildren why you let democracy die.

This it folks. This is not a drill. It’s our country and we must stand together to protect …else risk losing it for good.

What we choose to do now will determine how this country is forever remembered.
